Beds and Headboards

Whatever space you have, be it your own house, a rented room, a condo unit or wherever that might be where you snooze or take a nap, a bed will always be part of the picture. At the end of the day, when we’re all tired from working, we look forward to sleep, of course, sleeping in the warmth and comfort of our own bed. Admit it. Having a good bed is one of the factors that lead to a good sleep and eventually, to waking up in a good mood.

At the present time, there are a variety of beds to choose from. They range from the finish to the design, style, materials used, cushion, size, shape, and price, to name a few. You have a variety of materials to choose from such as wood, metal, iron, leather, all depending on your taste. Some beds even have drawers or baskets underneath for that extra storage space.

Beds can come in different sizes. They can be queen size, king size or kiddie size. There are even those that we call as day beds which can function as a sofa, providing extra comfort as well as sleeping space. Day beds can serve as beds without looking like an obvious bed. You can choose day beds with or without trundles. The trundles in day beds are similar to what arms are to chairs. They also come with baskets or drawers for added purpose. There are also those that we call as canopy beds. This is a decorative bed which has posts at each of the four corners which are about four feet high or more. The canopy bed was first used in the early medieval times by noblemen and women. This was for privacy and warmth since during that time, their attendants used to sleep in the same room with them, in case they needed something in the middle of the night. During these times, decorative fabric was draped across the canopy of the bed. Later on, a thinner and lighter fabric replaced the thick, decorative ones.

Some beds also come with matching dressers or side tables to create that harmonized look in your bedroom. Of course, no bed is complete without the headboard. Headboards are those that we can find at the top most part of the bed. They are similar to what backrests are to chairs. Headboards can vary in size and composition. Usually, whatever material the frame of the bed is made from, the same material is also used for the headboard. But headboards can be made from wood or metal, can be upholstered, and even carved. They can also be personalized to reflect your initials or your family seal or emblem, if you have one. The upholstered type can also have tufting as an added style and you can even change the fabric to create an instant new look.

And so they say that money can buy a bed but not sleep. True enough. But then again, investing in a good bed will help you get a good night’s rest and a great day the morning after. So, sweet dreams and sleep tight.
