Wall Décor: Frames and Shadow Boxes

Memories are truly priceless. They make us go nostalgic over something and bring us a certain feeling of happiness. When visitors come over, we love sharing with them our travels and experiences and even bring out our photos or memorabilia from that particular event. Memories sure are a great way to design and decorate our homes. So here’s a design idea for a wall decoration, use frames and shadow boxes.
Frames make an instant accent to any room. Be it a picture frame, a framed painting or certificate or any other item that is placed in a frame, this is one of the ways which you can use as a finishing touch to your room. Wall frames can be any size and any shape. A great design idea is to group your frames together and create a sort of collage on your wall. This makes a great wall art and of course, will immediately start a conversation.
When arranging the frames, you can have several design styles to choose from. You can make a uniform arrangement where you have frames of the same shape and size and picture style. You can even create a theme for the pictures and the frames that you want to be grouped together. Another design style that you can choose is to have a random arrangement of your frames. This style can have a variety of frame sizes and shapes. You can combine round or oval frames with the square or rectangular ones. The idea behind this style is to mix and match.
An interesting design idea for wall frames is to mount them with varying distances from the wall, thereby creating an overlapping or layering of frames. This will create depth as well as style in your design.
Shadow boxes are another way of creating wall art or wall decoration. They give your wall an interesting and creative design. Shadow boxes usually contain memorabilia. They are one way of preserving and letting you enjoy memories. The items that are placed in a shadow box can be anything that you want to be preserved. These can be medals and awards, letters, coins, spoons, collector’s items, baby shoes, and other memorabilia.
A great design idea for shadow boxes is to also group them together. And since these are precious items, you can have the box covered with glass to ensure protection from dust and other particles. You can also have them mounted on the wall or just simply place them on top of a console table, on the shelves of your bookcase or any surface that is close to a wall. Layering or a bit of overlapping will also work well with shadow boxes. Keeping it simple is also essential since you want whoever is looking at them to realize that this is something valuable to you.
So when you have a hankering for some good old decorating, bring out those photos and memorabilia and consider putting them on display. Create that great wall decoration in any room of your home and be creative with frames and shadow boxes.
