Winter Decorating Ideas

Designing and decorating your home does not have to end once the Christmas season ends. You still have something to celebrate and that is the winter season. So here are a few design and decorating ideas for your home this winter.

In the midst of the chilly winter air, the ideal home design and décor for this season should emphasize two things: warmth and comfort. Color is still essential since this adds life to the room. Typical home design favorites for winter include winter berry wreaths, cut out or ornamental snowflakes, dried twigs and branches, berries, pine cones of all sizes, poinsettias, fruit and nut combinations, and candles. When designing, consider greens and reds or white and silver. Christmas lights also add sparkle and add a magnificent appearance to your home design whether indoors or outdoors.

When creating a table centerpiece for your family dinner or when you have guests over, buy amaryllis flowers and place them in tall bosphorus vases. This creates a wonderful aura to your dining table and makes it colorful and lively as well. You can also add pine cones of all shapes and sizes to your table setting as well as candles that are placed on candle holders of varying heights or candles placed on a cake stand.

To make the room feel warm and cozy, replace your thin curtains with heavy draperies. Make the room as comfortable as possible by adding a carpet or a rug. Decorate your tables, consoles, and bookcases with items that suggest a winter theme. This can be figurines, paintings, childhood pictures that have snow, skiing or skating, and other memorabilia. You can make the room more interesting by including wall art and wall décor that signifies the winter season.

Since we want to emphasize warmth and comfort, use dark tones and warm colors from your rugs to your sofas and your bed covers. Add extra warmth to anyone lounging around the living room by providing throws and large, fluffy pillows. And to add more life into the room, have green plants around, be it a topiary, a small potted plant or anything that grows. This will surely remind you of the beauty of nature and the seasons.

So for this winter season, there are plenty of reasons to feel the warmth and comfort. You don’t need tons of hot chocolate or several warm cups of coffee. All you need to do is to gather your family around, change your home design and get into decorating, even in the winter season.
